Connected Communities was founded in 2012 by Katie Scherrer, an independent consultant and former Children’s Librarian. Katie’s expertise lies in helping libraries and educators modify their existing services and outreach strategies to become more inclusive of growing Latino and Spanish-speaking communities in meaningful ways. She is a strategic, community-focused thinker and a passionate advocate for inclusion in all public services.
Katie offers a variety of consulting and training services to organizations embracing the challenge of adapting to changing community needs. Examples of past consulting projects include strategic planning, content development, translation services and collection development guidance. Katie has provided training to hundreds of librarians and early childhood educators through her online and in-person workshops on outreach and bilingual storytime. She is the co-author of the forthcoming Once Upon a Cuento: Bilingual Storytimes in English and Spanish to be published by ALA Editions in early 2016. Feel free to contact Katie to discuss the specialized training or consulting services she can offer your organization to help you fulfill your mission of providing equal access and engaging services to all members of your unique community.
